Review of the Elephant Man

The film, The Elephant Man, by David Lynch is a very powerful film which follows a man named John Merrick who is horribly disfigured due to a birth deformity. At first glance, the film mostly seemed to be about John Merrick, however, this wasn't the case. The true purpose of the film is to illustrate how John Merrick himself affected those around him. For example, the audience assumes that Dr. Treeves is a protagonist in the film, for he put in all of his effort to try and find a cure for John Merrick.

Bullying

Bullying has become a global issue due to recent events, such as the suicide death of Amanda Todd. The question that comes into mine for people, is that why do adolescents treat each other in such a way that result in suicides. Amanda Todd is not the only victim of this; however, her case became famous due to a video that she posted on YouTube which explained her entire situation. As a senior in high school I have witnessed a handful of cases of bullying; however, I have not experienced it myself. Despite the fact that I have been fortuitous enough to not have experienced first hand, I have had a few friends who are or have been victims of bullying.

My Film Job

I would want to be  a producer, because I feel like I could come up with a good idea for a short film. I think that I can envision a film, and I would want to make that film a reality. I would make sure that each detail of the movie is exactly how I would want it to be so that my idea could be projected onto the screen. Also I have adequate leadership skills, so I would more than capable of taking command and making sure that the other members in my production company are on task. In addition to that I would also make sure that the schedule I create for the entire production of the film, is one that everyone is comfortable with and agrees with. Finally, I would make sure that there is even rotation of film equipment checkout throughout the entire group, so that no one member of the production company is always responsible for the camera.

"My name is John Merrick...."

My experience at the theater today, was single handledly the best day of my life. For the first time I was welcomed by the people around me, instead of being stared upon with perplexed faces. I was afraid to stand and the let the rest of the theater gaze upon me, for it reminded me of the numerous times Mr. Bytes forced me to stand up to be looked upon by the curious people. However, this time I wasn't afraid of being looked upon, rather I was in shock because it was the acceptance i had been looking for since the day I was born. Prior to this magnificent experience I felt as if i was a blemish on the face of the Earth, whose only purpose was to awe those who had never seen any of my kind. But after receiving a standing ovation at the theater, I finally felt as if I belonged; but most importantly, it reassured me that I was not a disappointment to my mother. The woman with a face of an angel.

Welcome to my nightmare

One nightmare that really frightened me was one that occurred recently. About a month ago I was asleep, when all of a sudden I was instantly awoken by a violent jerk. At first I thought my sister had woken me up because something was wrong, but the room was dead silent. I then tried to get myself out of bed in order to find a possible source from the motion, when I discovered that I was unable to move. My entire body was paralyzed, from head to toe, and I was only able to move my eyes. To make matters worse, I then felt an enormous pressure building up in my chest, that was slowly hindering my ability to breathe. I tried gasping for air but I was unable to open my mouth. Just about when I felt that I was going suffocate, I awoke gasping for air.

Compassionate Science

Planning to become a civil engineer, if I were to become a compassionate scientist, I would first tackle the worlds problem of homelessness. Since I am currently living in Los Angeles, there is a plethora of homeless people who wonder the streets everyday, struggling to make it to the next. As a compassionate civil engineer, I would plan to create complexes so that these homeless people could live in. They might not be huge luxurious, multi-storied homes, but they would provide shelter from the elements. In addition to providing a shelter for those who do not have one, I will be also removing the homeless people from the streets, greatly benefitting the city. However, in other parts of the world, people do have homes; however, they are make shift shacks or huts that provide little to no protection whatsoever. To make matters worse, these people live in areas where there is an immense heat or heavy showers. In order to increase their lifespan I would design buildings in those areas that are able to withstand the harsh conditions.

The Future

In the future, 100 years from now to be exact, there will travel by plane will be obsolete. People will no longer have to go through of going through airport security, paying high luggage fees, and waiting to board your flight. All of this will cease to exist because in the future teleportation will revolutionize the world, because people will be able to travel to any destination they wish with just the click of a button. Also in the future, the video game industry will also drastically change, due to the increase of implementation of virtual reality. Playing video games will no longer be just sitting down on your couch pressing of few buttons on a controller. Now the player will actually be in the video game, controlling every movement of the AI character. Also there will be no further use of a controller, because the characters will be controlled by your own motion. In addition to that, in the future people will be able to try a wide variety of food while staying in the comfort of your home. There will be a screen inside every home, which displays the thousand upon thousand of food combinations. Then according to your own individual preference, the user will simply press the image of the food on the screen and it will appear served on your dining table.

The time I laughed really really hard

One time I laughed really, really hard that milk came out of my nose and it caused a laughter chain reaction, with my friends who were present at the time. It happened when I was in the 5th grade and our immature minds found the dumbest things funny. I can't exactly remember what was the trigger of all the laughter; however, all I can remember was the aftermath. It was during lunch time, and one my friends said one of the funniest things I had ever heard at the time, and I had an instant reaction to the joke. The cafeteria was then filled with my laughter and I laughed so hard that the milk I drank prior to hearing the joke began to come out of my nose. That didn't do much to the quell the noise we were making, because my friends began laughing violently soon after. My friend sitting directly in front of me laughed so hard that he actually farted, which just caused us to laugh even harder. We had laughed so hard that we our eyes began to water, and when we finally quieted down our cheeks were very sore.

My favorite movie

My favorite movie of all time without a doubt would have to be Saving Private Ryan. One of the reasons why this movie is labeled as my favorite, is due to my interest in World War II. Through out the movie, the director depicts the intense conflicts between the Allied and Nazi forces. One of the most important, being the invasion of Normandy or aka D-Day. This battle is placed towards the beginning of the film, which in turn lets the audience know what to expect throughout the rest of the film. Unlike boring monotonous documentaries about World War II the film does an excellent job of making its audience feel as if they are in the war itself. Every gunshot in the movie is crisp, while the explosions from the tanks and bombers send give you goosebumps because of the amazing quality of the film's audio. However, the most important reason why this film is my favorite, is the fact that I can watch it multiple times and not get bored. I have at least seen this movie 8 times, and each time I watch attentively, making sure not to miss a single moment.
